Your prescription is working. You’re seeing results. But here’s something most men don’t realize or capitalize on:
medication is only part of the equation.
The right accessories and over-the-counter products can noticeably improve your treatment outcomes and overall satisfaction.
Sexual medicine specialists recommend many of these products to their own patients because small additions often make a meaningful difference in how well a treatment protocol performs.
Whether you’re on oral medications, using a VED, or managing an injection protocol, this guide covers products that complement what you’re already doing.
Lubricants are not a one-size-fits-all product.
That’s worth repeating because it’s the most common mistake men make in this category. The lubricant you grabbed off the shelf five years ago probably isn’t your best option.
Different situations call for different formulations.
Water-based lubricants
These are the most versatile option. They’re compatible with all condom types and safe to use with silicone toys. They wash off easily and won’t stain sheets or clothing. The tradeoff is that they tend to dry out faster than silicone-based alternatives, which means reapplication during longer sessions.
Water-based lubricants work well for men who use condoms regularly or whose partners use certain types of birth control that can be affected by oil-based products.
Silicone-based lubricants
Silicone formulations (like this one from Popstar Labs) last significantly longer. A single application often carries through an entire session without reapplication. They also work well in water, making them suitable for shower or bath use.
The main consideration is that silicone lubricants can degrade silicone toys over time. They’re also slightly more difficult to wash off, though warm water and soap handle it without issue.
Why quality matters
Sexual medicine providers specifically recommend quality lubricants like Uberlube or those from PopStar Labs because formulation matters more than most men realize. Cheaper lubricants often contain ingredients that can cause irritation, disrupt pH balance, or simply don’t perform as well during use.
Uberlube, for example, uses a clean silicone formula that’s hypoallergenic and free from parabens. It doesn’t get sticky or tacky, which is a common complaint with lower-quality options.
Vacuum erection devices and constriction rings have an image problem. Many men dismiss them as a last resort or assume they’re only for severe cases. The clinical data tells a different story.
The case for VEDs
VEDs have success rates above 80% and patient and partner satisfaction rates exceeding 90%. Those numbers rival or exceed many oral medications, yet far fewer men consider them.
Part of what makes VEDs valuable is what they don’t do. They don’t interact with other medications. They work regardless of the underlying cause of erectile difficulty.
For men who can’t take PDE5 inhibitors due to cardiac conditions or medication interactions, VEDs offer a reliable alternative. For men already on oral meds, adding a VED can enhance results.
VEDs are also useful for penile rehabilitation. Men recovering from prostate surgery often use them to maintain tissue health and penile length during recovery.
Constriction rings
Constriction rings work by helping maintain blood in the penis after an erection is achieved.
They’re often used in combination with VEDs but can also complement oral medications for men who have difficulty maintaining rigidity.
Traditional rings have a 30-minute wear limit due to safety concerns. Newer materials and designs have changed that equation.
FirmTech Tech Ring: function meets data
The FirmTech Tech Ring represents a different approach entirely. It functions as a constriction ring with a penoscrotal design that wraps around both the shaft and testicles for secure placement and enhanced sensation. But it also includes built-in sensors that connect to a smartphone app via Bluetooth.
The ring tracks nocturnal erections, which are a key indicator of vascular and overall health. It monitors the duration and firmness of erections and generates an Erectile Fitness score that you can track over time.
For men working with a provider to optimize their treatment, this data is genuinely useful. You can see how interventions like medication changes, lifestyle adjustments, or testosterone therapy affect your function over weeks and months. You can share this information with your physician to inform treatment decisions.
The hook-and-loop design also makes the FirmTech ring safe for extended wear, up to 12 hours, including overnight use. That’s a significant departure from traditional rings.
The takeaway: VEDs and modern constriction rings aren’t backup options. For many men, they become a primary part of their approach because they work reliably and provide benefits that medications alone can’t match.

ICI therapy is highly effective, but the injection process itself can be a barrier to consistent use. The right accessories reduce friction and make the routine easier to maintain.
Insul-Ease syringe magnifier
Reading the markings on an insulin syringe requires decent close-up vision. For men who wear reading glasses or struggle with small text, the Insul-Ease magnifier attaches directly to the syringe and enlarges the measurement markings. Accurate dosing matters with ICI, and this simple tool removes one source of uncertainty.
Autoject El auto-injector
Many men find the mental aspect of self-injection more challenging than the physical sensation. The Autoject addresses this by converting the manual injection process to a one-button mechanism. You load the syringe, position the device, and press. The injection happens automatically.
This removes the hesitation that can occur when you’re watching the needle and manually pushing it forward. Men who use auto-injectors often report that the process feels less intimidating and becomes more routine.
Using an auto-injector can also make it easier to move around the injection sites, which is a common suggestion from our providers.
Tips from experienced ICI patients
Men who have used ICI therapy for years often develop their own techniques. Two that come up frequently:
Using a VED briefly before injection can inflate the tissue, making the injection site easier to access and the injection itself more comfortable. Some men find that this reduces post-injection discomfort as well.
Over-the-counter pain relievers taken 30 minutes before the injection may help with any post-injection soreness. Discuss this with your provider if you experience discomfort after injections.
The takeaway: The right tools reduce friction and make it easier to stay consistent with your protocol. When ICI becomes routine rather than stressful, compliance improves and so do results.
Your prescription addresses a specific issue. Supplements support the underlying systems that contribute to overall sexual function. These aren’t replacements for medical treatment. Think of them as supporting players.
PopStar Labs supplements
The PopStar Labs lineup was developed by urologists who specialize in sexual medicine. The formulations focus on areas that prescription medications don’t address: semen volume, sperm health, and reproductive function.
PopStar Volume + Taste is designed for men interested in supporting semen volume, improved taste, and supporting overall sperm health. The formula includes zinc, L-arginine, pygeum, and sunflower lecithin, all of which have research supporting their role in semen health and sexual wellness.
For men actively trying to conceive, PopStar Fertility takes a more targeted approach with 12 ingredients specifically selected to support sperm motility, count, and quality. Male factor issues contribute to roughly half of fertility challenges in couples, yet many men don’t realize that targeted supplementation can make a difference.
All PopStar products are physician-formulated, non-GMO, and manufactured in FDA-registered, GMP-certified facilities. The capsules are vegetable-based with no unnecessary fillers.
Setting realistic expectations
Supplements work on longer timescales than medications. This means you won’t see effects from supplements sooner than 6-8 weeks of consistent use. Most people need to be on supplements for two to three months before seeing improvements.
The supplements support biological processes. They don’t produce immediate, noticeable effects the way a PDE5 inhibitor does. What they offer is cumulative support for sexual health over time.
The takeaway: Your prescription addresses the immediate issue. Quality supplements support the underlying systems that contribute to long-term sexual health and wellness.
The products in this guide won’t replace what your prescription does. But they can enhance results, fill gaps your medication doesn’t address, and improve your overall experience.
