About the Presenter

Thomas Dykes, MD is the Chief of Urology and the Site Director for the Wellstar-MCG Urology Residency at the Charlie Norwood VA in Augusta, GA where he has held these positions since retiring from the U.S. Army in 2016.  Prior to that he held leadership positions as Chief of Surgery, Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill, OK and Chief of Urology, Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, GA.  He also lead the Genesis Team for the inception of robotic surgery at Fort Gordon and leads the robotic surgery program at his home VA.

Dr. Dykes received his undergraduate degree from Mercer University in Macon where he attended under an ROTC scholarship.  He obtained his medical degree at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services School of Medicine in Bethesda, MD on the grounds of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.  He completed his General Surgery and Urology training at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI.  He is board certified by the American Board of Urology.

While in the Army, Dr. Dykes served as Brigade Surgeon of 3/101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division at Fort Campbell, KY.  He also served in various leadership positions as mentioned above.  In addition to other awards, Dr. Dykes received his Airborne Wings, Air Assault Badge, Flight Surgeons Badge and Expert Field Medical Badge while on active duty.  He served as the sole urologist with the 86th Combat Support Hospital in direct support of the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-2004.

Dr. Dykes’ clinical practice is in General Urology.  He enjoys training residents and growing the Urology Service at his VA.  He is the proud father of four young men and the humble husband of Kristen, his wife of 28 years.
