Clinical Study: How PharmaLab’s Temperature Protection Technology Outperforms Industry Standards

A startling 70% of medications shipped in the United States annually experience temperature excursions that could compromise therapeutic efficacy.

With delivery trucks sometimes reaching internal temperatures of 150°F during summer months, the pharmaceutical delivery system presents a significant patient and pharmacy concern during the summer.

The regulatory framework compounds this crisis. While FDA regulations mandate strict temperature controls for all pharmacies, these protections cease at the pharmacy door, leaving the critical “last mile” delivery unregulated.

The most dangerous aspect of this problem is that temperature-damaged medications often show no visible signs of degradation. Proteins can denature and therapeutic compounds can lose efficacy while maintaining normal appearance, making visual assessment inadequate for determining medication safety and/or potency.

How our pharmacy partner protects temperature sensitive shipments during the summer

Recognizing the inadequacy of industry-standard solutions, menMD and our pharmacy partner, PharmaLabs, developed and clinically validated a temperature protection system that exceeds those standards. Our comprehensive research focused on real-world delivery conditions, including the extreme temperatures found in delivery vehicle cargo areas during summer months.

Key Findings:

  • Our packages maintained safe temperatures for 4-5 days vs. industry standard 2-4 hours.
  • Medications were well within the required 68-77°F range during that timeframe despite excessive external temperature exposure.
  • Our packaging 300-400% better protection duration compared to traditional packaging.
  • Proven 72-hour medication potency/stability even at room temperature for trimix. (Other tests have shown that some medications can last much longer)
Our methodology

The clinical validation study employed head-to-head comparison methodology, testing PharmaLabs’s Kanga Mailer system against industry-standard styrofoam coolers. This comparison was tested in real world conditions by tracking actual temperatures in real packages and shipping them in June 2020.

The study tested multiple shipping container methods over a 8-day period, comparing styrofoam coolers, kanga mailers, and metallic mailers with varying ice pack configurations. The study also tested multiple temperature-sensitive biologics, across 72+ hours of continuous monitoring to establish comprehensive performance metrics for temperature maintenance, protection duration, and medication integrity.

In particular, stability testing demonstrated the tri-mix formulation remained chemically stable, sterile, and within potency standards at 23°C for over 72 hours, with all three active ingredients maintaining 99.8-104.1% of expected potency and passing sterility/endotoxin testing. An additional extension study confirmed stability and potency at 25°C for 4 days and even showed acceptable degradation patterns up to 72 hours at 30°C.

300-400% Superior Protection

The clinical study results demonstrated remarkable superiority of the Kanga Mailer system.

While traditional styrofoam coolers failed to maintain safe temperatures within 2-4 hours under extreme conditions, the Kanga Mailer system maintained therapeutic temperature ranges (68-77°F) for 4-5 days, providing a 300-400% improvement in protection duration.

Most significantly, the study established extended safety margins with proven 72-hour stability even at room temperature, giving both providers and patients confidence in medication integrity during delivery delays.

A Note About PharmaLabs Packaging – Summer 2025 Update

To further enhance the integrity of temperature-sensitive shipments, PharmaLabs is adding a third ice pack to all Kanga Mailer packages beginning this summer. This additional ice pack is expected to extend temperature control (below 25°C) by approximately 6 to 18 hours, depending on external conditions.

This packaging upgrade is designed to give both you and your patients greater confidence in the stability and reliability of our cold-chain shipping—especially during the warmest months of the year.

Advanced WarmMark Monitoring Technology

Beyond superior packaging, PharmaLabs has integrated cutting-edge WarmMark monitoring technology into their delivery system. Each medication shipment includes irreversible color-change indicators that provide immediate visual confirmation of medication integrity through a binary green check or red X system, eliminating clinical guesswork in therapeutic decision-making.

This QR-coded verification system represents the first practical solution for bridging the regulatory gap between pharmacy dispensing and patient administration, providing healthcare providers with objective data rather than subjective assessments about medication safety and seamlessly integrating into standard clinical workflows.

What This Means for Your Practice

With verified temperature protection, you can confidently prescribe mail-order delivery for temperature sensitive medications that previously required pharmacy pickup—including biologics, immunosuppressants, and other injectable therapies.

The real-time verification technology provides objective documentation for patient safety records and regulatory compliance, while giving you and your patients peace of mind that medications maintain their therapeutic effectiveness from pharmacy to patient.

Clinical Recommendations and Implementation

Healthcare providers can no longer accept delivery systems that compromise medication integrity.

Based on our study’s evidence and other research, healthcare providers should immediately assess their pharmacy partners to ensure they take safety precautions and implement temperature protection protocols for their patient’s sake.

Patients deserve medications that actually work when they need them most, and the technology to ensure this standard is available today through our vetted partners.
