How Common is ED?
ED is highly prevalent, estimated to affect 30 million men (or 18%) in the United States and more than 100 million men worldwide. According to the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, 52% of men ages 40 to 70 years reported some form of ED. Of the 52%, 17% had mild symptoms, 25% moderate, and 10% severe.
A more recent study looked at the overall prevalence of ED in men in a younger age category. The National Health Social and Life Survey determined that 31% of men aged 18-59 experienced some form of ED.
Although the age variable is most strongly associated with erectile dysfunction, ED was found more likely when paired with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and associated medications.
